coordinating girly outfits

Most people who know me will also know that I'm not a huge fan of kids being dressed in identical outfits, so when I started designing outfits for my two girls for a family photo shoot, I knew they would have to be drastically different. After much indecision, scrapping original ideas, reviving original ideas, etc(I think that's my trademark??) I finally settled on these.

It's hard to see some of the detail in these, but the skirt has the same pleating in the waistband as the dress. I used the tutorial for the skirt from Kelly at Sewing in No Man's Land, with a little altering in the waistband to fit over her little potbelly! Almost all skirts she wears tend to fit down under her belly which makes them longer in the front. By making the yoke actually get bigger at the top and with the elastic in the back only, it fits just how I envisioned. The cardigan was up-cycled from a Goodwill find.

The dress is based off of Kelly's Butterfly dress.

I'm really happy with how the headband turned out. If only I had an excuse for her to wear it more often!
